Note on Linux instructions
Last updated: 2025-07-28
As of this writing I am running my games on a modern system with an RX 6700 XT graphics card on Fedora Linux 42. The system runs on wayland, that is the default currently on Fedora. Gamescope support on this setup is excellent. I’ve come across older systems that unfortunately are not able to use Gamescope, this may because older Vulkan versions will not work with Gamescope at all. Linux Mint also does not support Gamescope out of the box, and getting it to work using Lutris might require a lot of tinkering. If you are on a system where Gamescope won’t work, I would instead suggest just leaving it off. In some games it can fix rendering and drawing issues though which is why in some of the instructions I will instruct to turn on Gamescope.
While if your system is recent and can work with Gamescope just fine, I would suggest always turning it on. It will let you switch to other tasks while the game just keeps running in the background.
When utilizing gamescope, and you close out of a game. In some cases gamescope processes might keep running in the background causing runners like Lutris to keep showing the game as running. To resolve this, manually kill these two processes using your Task manager/system monitor:
gamescope-wl
gamescopereaper
or using the terminal:
pkill gamescopereaper -9
pkill gamescope-wl -9

-
Extract the contents of the archive file using 7-Zip (or similar).

-
Then, copy the contents of the folder "C" (the folder that is inside “Alex op de Boerderij, Program Files”) into your C drive.
-
Now you should have a folder named UbiSoft in your C:\ drive and a folder of the same name in your Windows folder.
-
Go to: C:\UbiSoft\Alex op de Boerderij\Alex_DFX.exe
-
Right click, click Properties, then turn on compatibility mode and set it to Windows 98/Me.

You can make a shortcut on you desktop to this file using the right click menu.

Additional note by By AlphaYellow: A fix for the English/French/German version exists here:
https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/3035-alex-builds-his-farm-fix-pack/
Features:
- Made the game "portable" so that it looks for the configuration file (ubi.ini) in the game's root directory rather than the Windows directory (Note: The "UbiSoft" subfolder isn't needed in the game's folder – just copy ubi.ini from C:\Windows\UbiSoft\ to the game directory, or also use the ubi.ini included in this fix if you can't find any in the mentioned directory).
- FOV now scales automatically with the resolution that's in ubi.ini (Check here for instructions for setting widescreen and wider resolutions).
- Fixes the placement of the green bar (HUD element) on resolutions other than 640x480.
- Texts, HUD elements and menu backgrounds are now unstretched and centered at the 4:3 area (there is also a version of the patch that keeps these elements stretched if it's preferred by some).
